The highly anticipated Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headset has finally hit the shelves in the United States, with eager customers who preordered it now starting to receive their devices or pick them up from Apple Store locations.
In a grand event at Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City, CEO Tim Cook himself made an appearance to mark the release of the headset. Speaking to CNBC’s Jim Cramer, Cook addressed the hefty price tag of the Vision Pro, which starts at $3,500, by emphasizing its cutting-edge technology, dubbing it “tomorrow’s technology today.”
Cook highlighted the option for customers to spread out payments over time through a monthly financing plan, making the headset more accessible. He also boasted about the innovative features of the Vision Pro, mentioning its whopping 5,000 patents.
“We believe we’ve set the price at the right level considering its value,” Cook stated confidently.
During Apple’s recent earnings call, Cook mentioned that the Vision Pro is not only gaining traction among consumers but also in the enterprise sector. Several prominent companies like Walmart, Nike, Vanguard, Stryker, Bloomberg, and SAP have already begun to utilize the headset as a platform for both customers and employees.
Despite the enterprise focus, Cook emphasized that Apple remains committed to serving both consumer and enterprise markets, citing the wide range of applications and games available for the Vision Pro, providing users with a unique “spatial computing” experience.
Apple’s fiscal first-quarter results exceeded expectations, with its wearables business, including the Vision Pro, contributing to the success. Although there was an 11% decline in year-over-year sales, analysts remain optimistic about the headset’s potential to drive revenue, especially with its inclusion in Apple’s growing lineup of wearables alongside the Apple Watch and AirPods.
