Disney is currently working on two separate Pirates of the Caribbean movies. According to a recent report, Disney is considering casting Ayo Edebiri, known for her role in The Bear, for one of these movies. Insider Daniel Richtman shared this news, mentioning that both projects are still in progress, with Edebiri potentially playing a character named “Anne.”
Originally, one of the movies was planned around the new woman pirate from Disneyland’s ride, Redd, with Karen Gillan rumored to star. However, plans have shifted towards a storyline focusing on a younger group of pirates in search of hidden treasure.
In the other Pirates film, Margot Robbie is said to still be attached as the lead for a female-led adventure, penned by Christina Hodson, the writer of Birds of Prey. Despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise, it seems this project is moving forward.
The version Edebiri is being considered for is helmed by Craig Mazin, creator of Chernobyl, and Ted Elliot, a writer from previous Pirates films. This particular film is more advanced in development, possibly taking precedence over the other.
It’s worth noting that neither of these movies will be linked to the original franchise featuring Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly, and Orlando Bloom.
