Tragedy struck a community in Florida yesterday when a small plane crashed into a mobile home park, claiming several lives and causing extensive damage. According to reports from the BBC, the incident occurred at the Bayside Waters mobile home park in Clearwater, just south of the Clearwater Mall.
The plane, identified as a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35, went down after the pilot declared a mayday to air traffic control. Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department confirmed “several fatalities” from both the aircraft and within the mobile homes.
A video shared by the fire department captured the aftermath, showing wreckage scattered across the street and multiple homes engulfed in flames. Firefighters from various jurisdictions rushed to the scene to battle the blazes.
Clearwater Fire Chief Scott Ehlers described the situation, noting that four trailers were severely impacted, with one directly struck by the aircraft. However, he mentioned thvat the fires were swiftly brought under control, preventing further devastation.
Fortunately, despite the chaos, residents managed to escape to safety. Chief Ehlers reported that although the homes were occupied at the time of the crash, no victims were found in the three trailers that were searched.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing, with officials indicating that the pilot is believed to have perished. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed that the plane had experienced an engine failure before the tragic event.
