Guess what Marvel fans? The highly anticipated “Thunderbolts” movie has got a new release date again! But this time, it’s good news. Disney has actually moved it up a couple of months instead of delaying it further. Let’s hope this date sticks! Get ready to mark your calendars for May 2, 2025!
Marvel Studios made some changes to its release schedule. “The Fantastic Four” will now be released on July 25, 2025, taking over the slot previously held by “Thunderbolts.” Along with this announcement, Marvel finally confirmed the cast for “Fantastic Four.” Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. These names have been buzzing around the rumor mill for a while, but now it’s official.
As for “Thunderbolts,” get ready to see some familiar faces leading the pack. David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), and Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) will be part of the cast. This movie was first announced during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation in 2022, marking the end of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If all goes according to plan, “Fantastic Four” will be the beginning of Phase 6.
Behind the camera, Jake Schreier (“Paper Towns”) will be directing, with Lee Sung Jin (“Beef”) penning the script. This movie has faced several delays since its announcement, dealing with strikes from the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild, among other issues. Casting has also been a challenge, especially for the role of Sentry. Initially, Steven Yeun was set to star, but due to scheduling conflicts, he had to drop out. There’s talk of Lewis Pullman being the frontrunner to replace Yeun, but Marvel hasn’t confirmed this yet. Additionally, Ayo Edebiri had to leave an undisclosed role, with Geraldine Viswanathan stepping in to take her place.
Plot details for “Thunderbolts” are still under wraps, but for those unfamiliar, think of them as Marvel’s version of DC’s Suicide Squad. It’s a team of characters who are usually the bad guys, but they end up taking on missions that aren’t exactly suited for your average superhero.
So get excited, because “Thunderbolts” will hit theaters on May 2, 2025!
